Godzilla Raids Again

Well it has been a while since I've updated this. I appreciate all the readers thus far and have finally given in to the pressure of writing the sequel. Though I have been trying to work on other projects, Godzilla keeps getting in the way, so I figure now is the time to just get it done.
I will say though, I am disappointed in the lack of comments here. I really wish more people would leave them. Good or bad, I really need the feedback, so please, If you like what you read , tell me. If you don't like it, tell me. tell me what works and what doesn't, this will not only strengthen me as a writer, but give you the fans a better story. And of course you can be anonymous. And if you haven't read the first story yet. It should still be up under the archives. Just click the links on the right.
And now without further ado, here are the first two scenes of the sequel.

GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN
by: Jon Paulo
copyright 2011

EXT CANYON WHERE GODZILLA WAS BURIED —

We pan over the top of the canyon to the rubble mound. We follow it down to the canyon floor where there is a small outpost of trailers parked. People are  going back and forth between trailers, some crawling on the rock pile with various equipment.

 INT TRAILER —

We see 2 men sitting by a bank of monitors and equipment. They are staring at a screen when the trailer rocks violently.

MAN 1 (SHOUTING)
Geiger readings are off the charts!

MAN 2
I think our friend is waking up! Get Hammond on the line!

The trailer rocks again. The commotion can be heard from outside, the sound of rocks falling and people screaming in panic. The trailer door swings open and a young woman peers inside. The two men stare at her.

WOMAN
Evacuation now!

The men get up and head for the exit.

EXT CANYON FLOOR —

They exit the trailer as it rocks again, one of the men loses his balance and falls to the ground, the other hangs on to the railing but flails about. The woman is running to the next trailer, dust and rocks raining down around her. People are running everywhere in panic.

There is a muffled roar. The two men look up and see the rubble pile burst open. Debris and large boulders tumble down and crush the camp around them. They try to run but the shaking of the ground keeps them knocked down. A large boulder is rolling towards them. The ear piercing sound of Godzilla's roar is heard, their attention now diverted up, they see Godzilla emerge from the pile of rocks. The boulder slams into them and the screen goes black.

GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN APPEARS ON SCREEN

Through the opening credits. We break into a montage of Godzilla moving through the canyon, out into the countryside, through Barstow, and into Edwards AFB. scenes of the military fighting hopelessly, Godzilla blasting jets and helicopters out of the air with his radioactive breath. He presses on through many small towns and cities, we see people trying to evacuate, running in panic. Tanks and missile launchers wait outside a town. Godzilla approaches, they fire, he fire back, wiping out the division. More buildings crumble as he makes his way towards the ocean.

 INT HELICOPTER —

We are inside a military chopper. Major Adams is piloting with Jack Hammond beside him. In the back are Dr. Hammond, Serizawa, and Miki Ogata.

DR. HAMMOND
(shouting up front)
 Major! Where is he now?

MAJOR ADAMS
He's ten miles from the coastline as of last report.

DR. HAMMOND
(looks to Serizawa)
 he's moving very quickly.
(shouts up)
 How long till we arrive!?

MAJOR ADAMS
About 15 minutes!

DR. HAMMOND
(to himself)
 I hope we make it.

 EXT SKY DAY —

The helicopter banks and flies towards plumes of smoke rising in the sky. The vast Pacific ocean ahead in the background.

 EXT COASTAL TOWN DAY —

Godzilla crashes through a small boardwalk. Ahead lies the ocean. He stares at it a moment and lets out a deep guttural growl. He then bolts across the beach and wades into the water. Behind him we see the chopper landing. The doors open and the doctors exit. They stare in wonder at Godzilla who is now waist deep in the water.

Godzilla tilts his head back. He lets out a loud roar, then dives into the water. The ocean erupts in froth and giant waves make their way to the beachfront. His tail juts out of the water briefly, it wavers slightly and disappears beneath the surface.

MIKI
He's gone.

DR. HAMMOND
Yes. We are too late.

JACK
All the better. I really wasn't in any hurry to get near that thing again.

MAJOR ADAMS
Yeah. Me either.
(turns to Hammond)
Where do you think he's going now doc?

DR. HAMMOND
I'm not sure Major. But I do believe the ocean was his primary destination. Though he doesn't appear to be an aquatic animal, there is still so much we do not know.

JACK
Well its gonna be a lot harder to figure out, now that he's out there.

MAJOR ADAMS
I'd rather have him out there.

MIKI
Yes. Me too.
(she looks back to the destruction behind her, left in Godzilla's path)
So much destruction. I think we all are a lot safer with him in the ocean.

SERIZAWA
Do you think he will return William?

DR. HAMMOND
Ah yes. We have not seen the last of Godzilla.

FADE

TITLE ON SCREEN: GULF OF MEXICO —

INT UNDERWATER NIGHT

We see two divers in the water. Flashlights searching until they shine on a pile of barrels. They proceed to the barrels and begin tying ropes around them. As they secure each rope, they give a tug and the barrels are pulled to the surface. On the sides of the barrel we can see faded printing of the radioactive waste symbols.

The divers secure the last of the barrels, it is wedged between some rocks. It is not breaking loose so they help pulling and pushing. Focus in on the side of the barrel as it breaks free, the rock punctures it slightly.

The divers ascend to the surface, the barrel rising behind them. A small trail of greenish liquid is trickling out of the barrel into the sea.

The divers break the surface next to a large fishing boat. They are bobbing in the water that is thick with sludge on the surface. They make their way to the ladder beside the boat. Removing their fins and masks, they toss them up to a crewman waiting up top. They climb the ladder onto the deck, the crewman hands them towels and they wipe the dark gooey substance off their faces.

DIVER 1
Ugghh. This stuff is awful.

DIVER 2
Yeah. Cant get it off quick enough. Tastes like shit too.

DIVER 1
Your not supposed to swallow it.

DIVER 2
Kind of hard to avoid when your coming through three inches of oil slick.

They start removing their gear and look over as two crewman are winching up the last barrel. As they swing it over the rail to place it on the deck, one of the men notices the small trail leaking from the side.

CREWMAN
Shit! We got a leaker.

CRANE OPERATOR
(shouting)
Get a cover on it! Somebody get the absorbent and soak that crap up!

A few crewman in bio suits come over and start spreading a substance over the leak. Two more come with a heavy tarp and cover the barrel.

The ships captain exits the bridge and comes down to the deck. Faces the crewman and divers.

CAPTAIN
What the hell happened here?

DIVER 1
Sorry Cap'n. The last one was stuck on some rocks. Must have sprung a leak while pulling it out.

CAPTAIN
Damn it! Well get that cleaned up. I don't want any of my crew getting sick from that garbage.

He turns to his crew out on the decks.

CAPTAIN (CONT'D)
Alright men. Lets secure this load and get out of here. The cleanup crews should be here in a few hours. I want enough distance between us and them before they get here.

He turns to go back to the bridge. The second diver, now in his regular clothing walks beside him.

DIVER 2
Captain. I dont feel good about that leaky drum on board. Maybe we can toss it overboard.

CAPTAIN
Are you nuts? We were told to leave no trace of this dumpsite. We are being well paid to make sure the oil spill cleanup crews do not find any trace. And that includes taking that leaking wastepile with us.

DIVER 2
Aye captain.

The two enter the bridge. Behind them the crew is cleaning up and covering up their illegal cargo.

  1. So my guess is that the leaking barrel helps Godzilla get back his radioactive abilities? Just a little foreshadowing on my part. So will this be a second movie? I wondered because of the place that talks about what is shown while credits are running.

  2. Nice to see this series up and running again. I'm guessing the radioactive barrels produce another monster for Godzilla to fight?

Also, I've had a few G 2012 ideas of my own, mind if I share?

  3. Isis, Actually the leaking barrel is in the gulf. It will give birth to another monster, as soon as the oil eating bacteria that is dumped in to clean the oil spill, comes in contact with the radioactive toxins it will create a new and very powerful, as well as destructive monster that Godzilla will fight in the epic ending. And yes, this is the sequel to the first one. Still working on some scenes but will post them once I feel they are ready to share. Thanks for reading and the comments.

  4. Erik,
Thank you so much for the comments, and yes I would love to hear your ideas. If you read my reply to ISIS you'll see that your theory is correct about the barrels.
Glad you like Godzilla's character. It was very hard to portray it as a believable creature, but Godzilla does learn as he goes on. We will find that he is very intelligent. Right now he's working on mostly instincts. As for Kentragon, well yes, it is Anguiras, I was nervous enough using the Godzilla name without permission, i really didn't want to push the envelope by using 2 Toho creations. Though I do like the acid pods. Kind of a cool yet natural weapon.

  5. I've had quite a few ideas.

Here are the two best ones:

    1. The first one has a North Korean bio weapon test create a whole ecosystem of mutants (Monster Island). The monsters remain on the island until a mysterious event drives them away. The refugee kaiju start causing damage, especially Godzilla. Eventually Godzilla fights some of the other kaiju, a huge worm in Baja and a giant Thorny Devil in San Francisco. It is later learned that the monsters were driven away by a huge insect queen. Godzilla and the Queen fight in Los Angeles. Godzilla defeats the queen before he (and the other mutants) return to Monster Island. I have a full synopsis... somewhere. I'll be sure to send it to you when I find it.

    2. The second idea comes in two versions. The first version has Anguirus as the villain. In this version Godzilla and Anguirus are awoken by a "dirty bomb" in the South Pacific. The story here takes place in Japan, with a massive final battle in downtown Tokyo.

The other idea uses Battra as the villain. In this story, Godzilla's origins have been changed to have him as a Yamato (living god in Japanese culture). Battra is a corrupted Yamato. This story takes place on the West Coast.

    Thoughts?

  6. Erik,
I like the first one. Though I hear through the grapevine that the real Legendary script is something along that line. Or at least I heard something about a mutated insect queen and it takes place on the west coast. I do like the bio-weapon way of creating "monster island". Though that in itself could be a movie. The creation & exploration of Monster Island.
The second synopsis with Battra sounds like the makings of a sequel to GMK which is a good thing. I think if Toho brings back Godzilla they should continue from GMK. The G vs. Anguiras idea could be a good remake of Godzilla Raids Again. Which is how I am directing my series. Its a reboot of the Godzilla icon combined with elements of GRA. But I like it. Send me a link if you write any of these into scripts. I'd love to read them.

  8. So I am anxiously awaiting the newest monster and the return of Godzilla--hopefully you will have time to write some more soon!

  9. Haven;t had time to fully think out the story, but I've decided to go ahead and use Battra as the enemy, as well as make the movie part of a trilogy.

The story has the monsters as gods with human links/avatars. Godzilla's avatar is a young fisherman played by RAIN. Battra's avatar is a geologist played by Abbie Cornish. Godzilla awakens in the Mariana Trench and Battra emerges in Death Valley. Godzilla appears on Oto Island looking for the fisherman (named Makoto Ryu), but is captured after a horrible nerve gas incident that kills everyone else on the island. Godzilla and Makoto are both held by the ST. GEORGE PROJECT until Battra begins attacking the West coast. Ends with a big fight between Godzilla and Battra in Los Angeles.

The second film brings in Anguirus and King Ghidorah. Anguirus' avatar is played by Michael Clarke Duncan and Ghidorah's avatar is a Chinese crime lord played by Chow Yun Fat. Anguirus emerges in Baja California and fights Godzilla (who is now held by the St. George Project) in San Francisco. The fight ends in a draw when Duncan's character (named Ray Ogden) gains control of Anguirus and the two monsters venture out to the country side. King Ghidorah is awakened in the Himalayas and controlled by Chow Yun Fat's character (named Shan Lung). Ghidorah attacks Hong Kong as Shan Lung announces his wishes of dominating China. Godzilla appears, but is no match for Ghidorah. Later he teams up with Anguirus and Ghidorah and Shan Lung are defeated. Anguirus is killed in battle and Makoto loses control of Godzilla, who disappears into the ocean.

The final film features Destoroyah and Mechagodzilla. Mechagodzilla is built in Detroit and piloted by General Isaac Saperstien (played by Stephen Lang). Destoroyah is awakened in Chernobyl and his avatar is a Neo Nazi named Vane Helmholtz (played by Ralph Friend). Godzilla fights Destoroyah in London. Destoroyah flees across the Atlantic ocean, Godzilla in pursuit. Godzilla is stopped by Mechagodzilla and the two have a massive underwater battle. Godzilla is thrown into an undersea volcano and Mechagodzilla intercepts Destoroyah in Washington D.C. Mechagodzilla can't defeat Destoroyah until Godzilla reappears and aids him. Vance is killed, leaving Destoroyah stunned, giving Mechagodzilla the abilty to carry him into the atmosphere and self destruct.

  10. hey ron here great 1st scene. q is the sledge surpost to introduce hedorah cause sludge is what makes hedorah what it is. just wondering.

  11. Ron, Thank you so much for all the positive comments. Very glad you enjoyed the script.
I loved writing it and the sequel is more epic than this one. But I have a lot of projects i'm working on right now and had to put the sequel on hold. One of the projects is this script is going through a rewrite. It's a little too long for industry standards and does need a little tightening up.
As for your questions... Miki is from Japan. She came to the states to go to college. So she grew up there. And if you put it together.. her last name is Ogata. As in Ogata shipping... Her grandfather was technically in the original 54 movie. Well sort of..
As for Godzilla's breath... I tried to make him as real as possible. In the original movie as well as GRA and Ghidorah, Godzilla's breath was more of a mist than the blue laser beam we have gotten accustomed to. I personally was never a fan of the laser beam. Too unrealistic. I even prefer the fire that he used in G2K. I chose a green color, not only for the way it would stand out in film, but also because green is the color of radioactive material. I really tried to push the radioactive part. It seems to have been forgotten over the years. It's what makes Godzilla, Godzilla.
Glad you liked Kentragon. He really was a metaphor for Anguiras. But I didn't want to push my luck in using 2 Toho characters in an unauthorized script. But as I wrote more with Kentragon, I realized I really liked the character. The acid pods to me were original, and again something a real living creature could have. His other weapon aside from his ferocity, is that spiked tail. He hurt Godzilla pretty good with that thing. Really don't want to over do the characters.
As for the sequel... You hit the nail on the head. The sludge will create Hedorah. I am very excited about writing this one. I think Hedorah is one of the most terrifying monsters Toho ever created and needs to be used in its full context. And of course it is another folly of man. We created another monster in our selfish ways.
There will also be another monster in the sequel from the Toho universe. One I know the fans will love. But I'm not revealing it at this time.
Promise I will pick up and start writing the rest of the sequel but I'm honestly so busy right now that it could be summer time before I start posting any more of the sequel.
Thank you again for the support, and keep your fingers crossed that this could be the begining of a new Godzilla franchise.
